MScott (Multi-SCOTT) is a general purpose rst order theorem prover based on McCune's Otter and having the same functionality as Otter. Like its predecessor Scott, it uses a model generator to nd small models of subsets of the clauses generated during proof search. MScott diiers from Scott in that it generates and uses several models simultaneously. This not only improves its coverage of the useful semantic features of the problems it addresses, but also changes its behaviour to the point where we consider it a diierent prover. Naturally, its more intelligent behaviour comes at a price: the extra time it must spend in searching for models rather than in making deductions. The focus of our current research on MScott is the tradeoo between time devoted to the two aspects of reasoning. Results already obtained on the TPTP problems are encouraging. Abstract.
